RODOLFO SAMONTE
Born
1941. Imbibed art in the company of HR Ocampo, Legaspi, Roces in the AAP
and the Saturday Group. Exhibited in Manila's top
galleries: Kamalig, Galerie Bleue, Gallery One, Manila Peninsula, The Cultural Center of the Philippines, and won awards
from the AAP.
As an
abstractionist print maker, he brought print-making to its full potential:
from traditional paper silkscreen serigraphs to mixed-media layered relief
series.
He embued
his abstract works which he called structures, interactions, shapes,
rectilinears etc. with feelings, color, craft and art into what one critic
described as "geometric-planar-curvilinear-rectilinear color as shape
and shape as color art pieces."
His works
have a select upper scale following and is found among Manila's art cognoscenti
including the Cultural Center of the Philippines.
A few of his
layered relief serigraphs are in the art collection of the Banco de la
Republica Mantaje de Bogota.
