 HERNANDO R. OCAMPO +
Born 1911
in Manila. Took up law,
commerce and creative writing. Worked as writer, TV director and in the
1950s started participating in art shows in the Philippines and abroad.
Many local and foreign awards of recognition: AAP competitions, William Shaw
Award, Smith Mundt Grant, Chateau Musee, France.
Exhibited
in Washington, New York, Sao Paolo Bienal
and Tokyo.
A dominat
figure in the Philippine Art Gallery and the Saturday Group. Recipient
of the Republic Cultural award in 1954. Declared National Artist in
1991 (posthumously).
His abstract
nude line pen and ink sketches are prized collector items in the Philippine
art scene.
